Earth Day is a highly underappreciated holiday in America. It is a holiday that everyone forgets about until someone posts about it on Facebook and it’s too late to celebrate.

An easy solution to this problem would be to simply celebrate Earth Day every day. The following are five ways to do just that.

  1. Use fewer fossil fuels

Over the past few centuries, the world’s use of fossil fuels has rapidly increased. First, it was the industrial revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries, and now, it’s cars that produce a heavy amount of fossil fuels that damage our planet.

One way to halt, or at least slow, this damage is to drive less. As a replacement, you could carpool more often, ride a bike, walk or take public transport, which transports a mass amount of people, therefore, using less fuel. By doing this, we can help delay the demise of the planet.

  1. Donate to charities that support the environment

Charities are great because they do all of the work for you. All you have to do is donate a small portion of money.

The World Wildlife Fund is a great place to start. It is a non-profit organization that specializes in saving habitats and, in turn, preventing extinction. Obviously, if you can’t afford to make a donation, there are many other ways to support the environment at no cost.

  1. Cut down on disposable plastics

At the moment, our oceans are swamped with plastic. Animals like sea turtles take significant harm at the hands of these plastics. Not only this, but plastic takes decades to decompose, so it sits in landfills and oceans, taking up valuable space that could have been a habitat for an animal.

One major solution to this is to save the plastic containers that food, such as deli meat, comes in to use as tupperware; you could also start using a reusable water bottle, which will not only prevent countless animals from dying but also keep your water colder.

  1. Cut meat out of your diet one day of the week

The meat industry damages the planet in many ways. For one, it expels mass quantities of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which heavily contributes to climate change. On top of this, a large amount of meat is packaged in the aforementioned plastic containers.

If everyone cut meat out of their diet just one day out of the week, we would drop the damage to the atmosphere, oceans and land by a significant amount. This would significantly extend the life of this beautiful planet that we live on.

  1. Plant a tree

Planting a single tree can help give oxygen back to the atmosphere. This can even be a fun activity for a group of friends. You can each plant a sapling and slowly watch it grow into a full sized tree. Along with oxygenating the air, trees also provide homes for insects and birds, both of which contribute significantly to the food chain.

Any contribution to keeping Earth beautiful is a significant one and should be treated as such. Just doing one of the actions listed above can have a positive impact on the planet.
