Every year, Jefferson City Public Schools recognizes two teachers for their dedication to education. Voted by community members and their peers, teachers at all thirteen elementary schools, two middle schools, Jefferson City High School, and Jefferson City Academic Center are eligible to win the Eisinger Teacher of the Year award and the Outstanding Educator award, which is given to the runner-up. Jordan Hart and Rhiannon McKee were two of our very own teachers here at JCHS who were finalists.

On April 27, Rhonda Allen of Thorpe Gordon Elementary took home the top honors, but McKee won the Outstanding Educator Award. She teaches science at JCHS, and said the secret to her success is caring for her students.

“Building relationships is the key ingredient to success in the classroom. I work hard to build rapport with my students by learning who they are inside and out,” McKee said. “Once I figure that out, I use their strengths to drive instruction in my classroom so every child has a chance to shine.”

Outside of the JCHS nominees and the winner, three other educators were finalists: Carrie Martin, an East Elementary librarian; Kim Sellers, a JCAC English teacher; and Jason Starke, a North Elementary 3rd Grade teacher.
